Use-cases

LGM Card Use-cases

The LGM Card can be personalised as RuPay qSPARC card. During personalisation two separate secure domains can be created, one domain supporting qSPARC based payment applications; the second domain dedicated to non-qSPARC applications.

Creating two separate domains will enable to add following new NFC use-cases after the LGM Card distribution to customer:

  • qSPARC based use-cases, e.g.: transit card, parking card, campus card etc., while each app will occupy one Service Area (SA) of the qSPARC app.NPCI enables up to 20 qSPARC app based use-cases in one domain
  • Non-qSPARC use-cases e.g.: access cards – campus, hospital etc.

New NFC use-cases can be added after the LGM Card is distributed to the customer either over NFC or over the Internet. Besides NFC use-cases the LGM Card enables various secure remote use-cases,e.g. while using client certificates, Aadhaar number etc. stored on its secure chip.

NFC Secure Dongle Use-cases

Secure NFC dongle is an electronic device that has embedded NFC antenna and a secure chip (SE). It is attached to a smartphone (COTS) via micro USB (and USB-C in the future). It suits COTS with OS Android and USB OTG support. It enables COTS to accept contactless cards. COTS need not to have internal NFC antenna.

NFC Secure Dongle is aimed at Formal SME and Formal micro-merchants under verticals with prevailing micro-payments – e.g. F&B outlets, kiranastores, private cabs. Merchants need not to invest into a new NFC enabled smartphones. The solution needs active mobile data. Secure NFC Dongle is addressing about 657 mil. smartphones and smart feature phones (with OTG support and with microSD slot) in India.

Secure microSD extending SoftPOS Security

Secure microSD Card is a standard memory card with embedded secure chip that can extend security of SoftPOS solution (SW app).

It is strongly recommended by NPCI that SoftPOS solution should use COTS with hardware key store. Secure chipsets like secure elements, PUFs, and TPMs embedded in the smartphones meet increased security needs – yet Secure chip is controlled by phone vendor and still there are not so many such phones on the market. Secure chip of the Secure microSD card is independent on the smartphone and it will be under control of the SoftPOS solution provider.

From 960 mil. active mobile subscriptions in India 470 mil. (49%) using smartphones, from which we estimate 30% are NFC enabled (141 mil.) smart phones – that all can be extended with independent HW Key Store – by using Secure microSD Card.

SoftPOS with Secure microSD is aimed at Formal SME and Formal micro-merchants.
